Mission & Objectives

The mission of the Academy of Investigational Services and Training (AIST) is to prepare individuals for
civil service examinations in the field of fingerprint classification and comparison.  By providing instructions
in the art and science of  fingerprint  forensics in accordance with the standards established by the  Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  

The
objectives of the program are to produce competent  fingerprint professionals who are trained to:

Physically take ink prints onto fingerprint cards.

Examine fingerprints to determine pattern type for the purpose of interpretation.

Examine fingerprints to determine pattern type for the purpose of comparison.

Examine fingerprints to determine pattern type for the purpose of classification.

Examine fingerprints to determine pattern type for the purpose of identification.

Identify and classify fingerprints using the Henry System.

Classify fingerprints using the Fingerprint Classification formula (FPC).

Examine fingerprints using ACE-V analysis.

Classify fingerprints using the computerized codes of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

Review fingerprints for quality prior to distribution and incorporation into existing records.

Assists in court case investigation process as it relates to fingerprint identification and comparison.

Testify in court case investigation process as it relates to fingerprint identification and comparison.
